Skyview Girls Wins 1st Place with Undefeated Season

With a perfect regular season of 18-0, the lady Falcons of Skyview set their eyes on the prize of achieving the state Championship title Saturday at the University of Montana’s Dahlberg Arena in Missoula. 

For the First time in school history, the lady falcons achieved another state championship trophy but the icing on the cake this time was the perfect undefeated season of 24-0. The latest Championship title is the second in school history which was achieved three years earlier.

However, the championship game against Missoula Helgate created an early point deficit where the lady falcons battled back to win the final 54-36 as senior Breanna Williams posted up 26 points which consisted of six shots and 14 free throws (14/14) along with 14 rebounds. Rae Smart cashed in 12 points with five rebounds while Taryn Salveson put up seven total points and to help the falcons win the State Championship title.

After the game, Head Coach Randy Chase stated the fabric that kept the team motivated and focused this year is that they are a “special group of kids that enjoy being around each other, they support each other, they take care of each other on and off the floor. The expectations of each other are high, they hold each other accountable but there’s that caring side of it.”

As for the seniors Breanna Williams, Kenzie Strachan and Angel Martin, Coach Chase referred to them as the “player/leadership stuff” he talks about in great teams as well as they were ones that “really bought into the program” where those girls really “took charge and made sure everybody was taken care of.”    

Breanna Williams has committed to the University of Maryland for college basketball as Angel Martin has committed with the Air Force Academy Prep School and Kenzie Strachan is still undecided as to where she will go after high school.
